What I’m Hearing is an iPhone app to allow quickly accessing the Wikipedia articles on the song and artist you're now hearing. It works for either songs playing that the microphone can pick up, or the song you're currently listening to in Apple Music on the same device. (Songs from Apple Music additionally have a link for the album).
For this to work, the song has to be in Shazam's database (for the microphone), the Wikipedia articles need to exist, and the articles must be discoverable with some simple cleanup of the information provided by Shazam. When that doesn't work, it will attempt to open a Wikipedia search with the text.
If you have the Wikipedia app installed, it will use it, otherwise it will open it in a web page.
Localizations are provided for French and Spanish. No other languages are supported in the UI.
If you see error messages instead of artwork or apple music links, something went wrong that has been seen to happen, usually with the artwork from Apple Music. You can try hitting the mike button again.
If you see other problems, please let me know (see below).
When you go to Wikipedia while listening to Apple Music, the music player may put a little oval at the top of your screen called a "dynamic island". It blocks the link to return to "What I'm Hearing". If you swipe right on the dynamic island, the link will reappear.
The app asks for permission to access your Apple Music library when you first run it. If you deny it that permission, when you are listening to Apple Music, and press the mike button on the app, the music will stop and the app will not know what you're listening to. You can fix this by going on your phone to
Settings->Privacy and Security->Media and Apple Music.
Apps that can access your media are controlled there. Tap the toggle for "What I'm Hearing" so it is green.
If you really don't want this app to access your Apple Music, you can set it to off. You probably will want to avoid the app when using Apple Music in that case.
